Hldfast

Money plans that hold.

Holdfast turns messy real-world finances into a concrete monthly plan with every dollar assigned.

A short planning step at the start of each month, drift narration through it, a recap at the end. Built for people moving from financial crisis to stability.

Start a planHow it works

Holdfast is not a financial advisor. We help you organize your money and make your own decisions.

How it holds

Set up once. Plan each month. Hold the line.

Holdfast is a recurring monthly loop, not a one-time setup tool. You set things up once, plan each month in a few minutes, and let drift narration run in the background until the next month opens.

01

Set up, once

Link your banks through Plaid. We pull 90 days of transactions, suggest categories, and surface your recurring bills. A nine-step onboarding wizard turns the data into your first committed plan — about five minutes.

02

Plan each month

On the first of every month, a short planning step opens. The budget wizard walks seven steps and re-drafts your variable targets against what last month actually did (~6 min). Carry-forward rolls the prior plan over when nothing has shifted (~30 sec).

03

Hold, reconcile, repeat

As transactions land, Holdfast narrates drift in plain English — never as instructions. The month closes with a recap, balances and surplus carry forward, and the next month opens. The loop tightens as the wizard gets real data to draft against.

recap → plan → hold → recap. The shape repeats.

What it doesn’t do

Holdfast shows and organizes. It never prescribes.

Money is personal. A piece of software shouldn’t tell you what to do with yours — and ours doesn’t. Here’s what that means in practice.

What we won’t write

Move $200 from Dining to Rent — you can't afford it.

Great job staying on budget!

You should max out your IRA this month.

Don't worry, we've got you

What we will write

Groceries: $312 against a plan of $250. Pacing over.

Unallocated drift: +$45 for the month.

Cash-flow check: $42 short on 2026-05-18 — the bill arrives before payroll.

Sinking fund covered car insurance this period.

Reconciliation

A plan you can read at a glance.

Every category, every goal, the cash-flow check, and a short narration of where the month is heading. No celebratory animations, no shame, no advice — just the numbers and what they suggest.

Honest answers

Questions we hear, plainly answered.

Is this a one-time setup, or does it run every month?

It runs every month. Onboarding is one-time — about five minutes to connect, categorize, and commit your first plan. After that, the first of each month opens a short planning step: the seven-step budget wizard when something has shifted, or carry-forward when last month’s plan still fits.

Is this financial advice?

No. Holdfast is not a financial advisor. We help you organize your money and make your own decisions. The Resources page links to free, confidential help for legal, credit, and crisis situations — always reachable from Settings.

Is my data safe?

Plaid handles the bank connection — Holdfast never sees your bank credentials. Transaction data is stored in Firebase under per-user access rules. You can disconnect a bank or delete your account from Settings at any time.

What AI does Holdfast use?

Claude Haiku for everyday categorization and chat. Plus subscribers get Smart Mode, which uses Claude Sonnet for harder conversations. The system prompt forbids prescriptive financial advice; a server-side classifier also surfaces the right resource line when crisis language appears.

Is there an app?

Holdfast is web today — install it to your home screen as a PWA. iOS and Android wrap-apps are coming, built from the same code so you keep your plan and history when you switch.

Can I import from YNAB / Mint / a spreadsheet?

CSV import lands in the next release. Plaid connections cover most users from day one — once a bank is linked, 90 days of history is pulled automatically.

What if the plan breaks mid-month?

Each committed period gets one do-over. From Settings → Re-budget a period, the planning surface reopens and a new commit replaces the previous plan; drift recomputes from there. Holdfast Plus offers wizard or manual modes; Free uses manual. One per period, ever.
